How To Do Emotional Freedom Technique

The emotional freedom technique (or eft for short) is used to reduce stress or any painful emotions that are in your past or thoughts. There are no drugs to take and it is very easy to learn. The basic idea of this is that you would touch certain parts of your body and think about any stressful or hurtful memories. It is a very calming technique to use when you are emotionally stressed out.

1. Think About It

Start by thinking of a stressful event or memory. Once you have it in your mind give it a score of how intense that thought is for you (0 being none, 10 being the hardest). Now tap the side of your hand right below your pinky finger. Say this, "Even though I am (what ever you are mad about) I love and accept who I am." You should say this three times while you tap the side of your hand.

2. Pressure Points

Now you will tap the rest of the pressure points while you are saying a phrase which will remind you of the hurtful or stressful memory. Other points: Inner eyebrows, Outside edge of eye, Underneath the eye, Right under the nose, Directly tap your chin, Your chest, underneath your arm (where the bra strap would be) and the top of your head. Make sure you are saying the phrase after each of these.

3. Deep Breath

Take long deep breaths while and after you are done. Then see how intense your memory is to you now. It may be lower than usual. Repeat the exercise again until you feel free from the emotion or it has gone down significantly in intensity level.
